The Nature Conservancy
In a departure from his normal procedure, John Ames co-owner of Ten High Street Gallery, and Edith Caldwell, who ran a successful California gallery for years, are co-curating a show, with "Fresh and Salty" as its theme. The reason? Ten High wants to highlight water, as a precious natural resource and to raise money for The Nature Conservancy as well. A significant portion of this exhibit's sales will go to the Conservancy to help them with the restoration of the Penobscot River and the Gulf of Maine project, two critical efforts to support our blue planet's most valuable commodity.
Caldwell helped with the selection of 26 artists from Maine to California who will show paintings, photographs and sculpture relating to water. In addition to Caldwell, Ames expressed thanks to Cynthia Hyde and Jim Kinnealey of Caldbeck Gallery for allowing them to also choose a number of works from that gallery’s roster of artists too.
The Conservancy will present a slide show and lecture at the Camden Public Library starting at 4:00 pm on Friday June 3rd to talk about the Penobscot River project, the Gulf of Maine project as well as other global water efforts. Everyone is cordially invited.
In announcing the show Ames said, “The world is changing rapidly and Sarah and I strongly believe businesses of all sizes can no longer sit on the sideline and hope some government program or private philanthropy will solve our environmental problems. We're all in this boat together (as it were). Please drop by 10 High Street and see the beauty and diversity created by a large and outstanding group of national artists as they celebrate WATER.”
The show opens on Friday June 3rd and will run through Saturday July 2nd.
