Sometimes It Pays To Spend Money

Here in Maine the winters can get really long. For instance  today is the first of April and 8 to 12 inches of snow are expected. (No that is not an April Fools joke.) Faced with the prospect of ever increasing heating bills and climate change that will bring god knows what, Sarah and I had an energy audit done by a company called Evergreen Construction headquartered in Rockland.

The results of the audit were shocking to say the least. It showed that almost 40% of the heat that we generated in our cellar NEVER GOT UPSTAIRS. Instead it slipped away through our old cellar walls. Not only that but, when it rained we had a slow moving shallow stream that went from one side of the space to the other and produced a mold inducing climate that could grow green/grey gunk on almost anything in a couple of weeks.

That very bad news cause us to bite a substantial financial bullet and we signed up for an energy saving makeover with Evergreen that was completed yesterday. I thought you might be interested in some pictures of the now water sealed, humidity mitigated, fully insulated basement at 10 High Street. We're glad we did what we did because the savings in energy costs can only get larger as time goes by.
