Kane's Fish

Kane Ackley is a carpenter by trade and good at his craft. He works with his father Larry. The duo does fast, neat, accurate work at reasonable prices.


While Kane shows every indication of someday being as good a carpenter as his dad, he has another skill at which he already is stunningly good and, it would seem, learned pretty much on his own.


The man is a fisherman beyond belief. He talks fish. He thinks fish. And of course, the ultimate test, he CATCHES fish. Not with fancy gear or in a boat that bristles with depth finders and electric trolling motors. No, he ambles down to the edge of most any river or lake with an open face spinning reel and a few spoons on his 10 lb. mono filament line. And....BAM he catches fish. (Big critters and lots of them.)


I said in passing one day that it sure would be nice if Sarah and I could have a nice trout for breakfast. There was a knock on our door yesterday and Kane presented us with this 16 inch rainbow. He said he had caught a bunch more that he threw back including one that was over 2 feet long!


He caught these beauties from the Megunticook River which is a modest stream that drains the big lake to our north and runs through downtown Camden into the harbor. He didn't think what he had just done was much of an accomplishment at all. 


If I had caught that trout you wouldn't have been able to shut me up for a month.
