Bull Story

There is a wonderful story  connected with this sculpture. I’ll let the 80 year old artist, Roger Majorowicz speak for himself:
“This sculpture was created in my studio in Via Del Ronco, Florence, Italy in 1960. It was cast at the Micheluzzi Foundry in Florence in 1961.
It was originally designed as a horse hitching post for an oilman in North Dakota. He had a heart attack, passed, and his wife moved to New York City. The bull has been in my private collection since then.
The original inspiration came from an Egyptian bull hunting scene from the temple of Ramessese III. The legs in the air are for wrapping bridal reins. It was designed to be mounted on a stone base.”
So there you have it. A sculpture designed and cast in Italy from a design on an Egyptian temple by a sculptor from South Dakota on display in Camden, Maine.
Go figure.
By the way the work is stunning.
